This weeks developments: baby is no longer an embryo, it's a fetus now! more distinct facial features and a heartbeat that should be able to be picked up by doppler.

This week we met with the endocrinologist. He informed me that I was misdiagnosed by the gyno. Based on my low numbers, it actually means the opposite of what you'd think, it means my body is overproducing the hormone, aka hyperthyroidism. It felt like my world came crashing down. So my body was over producing and then I was on meds to make it produce even more? That can't be good for anyone. Doctor assured me it's better to have too much of the hormone than not enough so baby should be just fine. Luckily I was only on the meds for 3 days and it supposedly takes at least a week to balance out hormone levels. Regardless, these people who misdiagnosed me are supposed to be delivering my baby!!!

Anyways, I took another blood test that day and the results came back normal! :) While that is great news, I'm still confused as to why my numbers were off to begin with. We're going to do another blood test just to be sure I'm still normal in a week. Keeping my fingers crossed!

This weeks developments: baby's arms and legs are moving like crazy but i can't feel it yet. fingers and toes are still slightly webbed but it's tail is finally gone!! taste buds are forming.

The ultrasound (US) tech said everything looks good and is on target for my due date... still September 26th. She also said the baby is sitting right where is needs to be and the heart rate is good, 160 bpm. It was such a relief to see the little one all nestled in and comfy.

However, this week I got some news that shook me to the core. My whole life I have been a perfectly healthy person, why is it now that I have someone else relying on my body, I have an issue? My 8 week blood test came back with low readings of TSH and Free T4 meaning my thyroid is underproducing the hormones the baby and I need, aka hypothyroidism. The nurse who called to deliver this news had horrible bedside manner and wouldn't answer any of my questions... she ever had the nerve to say "well you sound concerned, would you like to come in and talk to the doctor?" I was in tears because I didn't really know what this meant for me and the baby. I went to the doctor that afternoon and she informed me that everything will be ok and this is very common, especially in pregnant women. I will need to be on meds to bring my numbers up and possibly for the rest of my life. She encouraged me to get a second opinion from a specialist. Next week I will be meeting with an endocrinologist hoping to get some more answers. Until then... I'm struggling to stay off the internet looking for answers.

That's baby's little head on the right with a little nub of an arm sticking up

This weeks developments: baby is generating 100 new brain cells every minute (so that's where my head is going!). kidneys, arm and leg joints are all developing. both the brain and heart are getting more complex.

When the nurse came into the room I immediately asked if the test said positive and she said yes... and right away! I asked what that meant and she said it has to do with hormones. Now she's got my wondering if there's multiple in there! eek! And the ultrasound machine was broken so we have to go back next week to get the first glimpse of our little beebs. We can't wait!!! All and all everything is looks good!
